Dutch Peach Pie

Dutch Peach PiePeach Pie is a summer favorite when they are sweet and plentiful.  I was surprised last week to see the first of the Georgia Peaches in the store an couldn’t resist buying some.  I really didn’t know what I was going to do with them – they were just irresistible.

After sitting on the counter for a couple of days I decided to make a Peach Pie with them.  But not just any Peach Pie, something special. Then I remembered the Dutch Apple Pie.  Why not put those crumbs on top of my peaches?   As you can see I did with spectacular results.

While I was at it, I reduced the sugar significantly, added a bit of white balsamic vinegar to add a contrast to the sugar and a touch of vanilla which I have always loved with peaches. Continue reading

Crumb Topped Orange Date MuffinsCrumbed Topped Orange Date Muffins are a quick, easy treat for anytime of the day but in particular the morning with a cup of coffee or tea.

Basically,  the dry ingredients are mixed in one bowl and the wet in another.  The two are combined and the dates are added.  Divided among mini cupcake pans, regular or Texas muffin pans, these are even better kept in a tin overnight.  Perfect for that morning treat. Continue reading

New York Style Crumb Cake

New York CrumbcakeNew Yorker’s like to take credit for the New York Crumb Cake. But it actually made it’s way over from Germany. In any case the New York Style Crumb Cake is a wonderful breakfast treat that is easy to put together and wonderful served slightly warmed with coffee or tea.

Recently, Tony’s took over the last of the food services in the building. While only breakfast and lunch are served, they are made with the same care and attention that is brought to the restaurant and indicitive of the Tony’s name.

I make a lot of the cookies, fruit breads and bars as well as the quiches. I am always on the hunt for something new. I was looking for coffeecakes on the net when I ran into the New York Crumb Cake. I have always loved crumb cakes and thought it would be a good addition for Tony’s A.M. Continue reading
